Pete Lockwood

Peter and Karen Lockwood

I am a third-generation family owner of our camp, (Hipine). My grandfather Harold A. Melcher bought the land in 1922. In 1924 he built our camp. He and my grandmother, M. Arline Melcher spent every summer at their camp. My mother, Patricia A. Lockwood was almost born up at camp. My sister Diane and her husband Mark Wendorf share the ownership of Hipine.

We enjoy being at camp and enjoy swimming in the lake very much. As kids we had the righthood of passage by swimming across the lake. We like hiking and canoeing both at camp on the Saco River and at nearby recreation areas. In my younger years I was often known to hike the White mountains. I am a thru hiker which I completed in 1983.

Karen and I are both retired from Bath Iron Works but, find that we are as busy if not busier now than when we were working full time. One of our favorite things is to spend time with our four adult children and grandchild.
