Loon Nest Deployed!
On Saturday, 4/19/2025, Steve and Diane Wilson, Peter and Judy Lezon, and Sally Moore deployed the newly planted loon nest raft in the cove near Bill and Sally's home. This deployment was particularly special, as it is the first deployment since Bill's passing - Bill had always done it in the past. In addition to the nest, a few signs warning boaters of the loon nesting area were also put out.
This floating “raft” serves as a standalone haven for our loons to create a nest safe from the perils of the shoreline zone - open view of flying predators, access by predators on foot, and nest damage from boat wakes. The nest was originally designed and planted by the Maine Audubon Society as part of the Maine Loon Restoration Project. It got a refresh this year and features native grasses, shrubs, and evergreens to provide cover through the seasons. Learn more about the Maine Loon Restoration Project here!
If you see or talk with Steve, Diane, Peter, Judy, or Sally, please thank them for their work and support!
